Christmas Eve Prayer - December 24, 2018
  Rev. Sandy Daly

God of life and love, whose good news often comes in surprising packages, open our eyes and ears to see and hear your message in the gifts of love all around us..

Gracious God, we come to you with hearts made full by this holy season with its lights, its sounds, its memories, its hopes… and most especially, by its message of peace, and good will to all…good will to ALL, O Lord.

In the birth of Jesus you have given our weary world reason to hope, reason to understand vulnerability and compassion. In the helpless cry of an infant you offer hope to all who cry out. By the light of a star you have helped us find our way again.

We thank you, good and generous God, that in Jesus you have made yourself known and have beckoned us to join you in the continuing creation of a world where the wolf and lamb shall dwell together and justice will roll down like waters.

Create in us, O God, hearts devoted to shaping that world, and bless especially those for whom such a world seems only a distant dream— the poor, the imprisoned, the lonely, the despised… those who are without shelter or food, by the ravages of nature, war, or political decree. We pray for those who are sick in body, spirit or mind. Surround with your love those who are far from home, those who are in harm’s way, and those who serve the cause of peace.

Open our hearts to the joy-filled news of angels and the wonder of shepherds that our faith may be renewed. Grant us the strength and will to make meaningful the good news of your love.     Grant that those whose lives we touch may hear in our words and see in our actions evidence of that love.

These things we ask, trusting in your care for us, today and always. Amen.
